Position Overview

AGAE Contractors, Inc, is currently seeking an Estimator for the Building Division in Chicago, IL. The Estimator will support and work with management, operations, and other estimating staff in the review of project plans, requirements, and specifications. The Estimator shall have knowledge of construction means and methods, costs, and engineering principles. Estimating experience with Commercial, Educational, Healthcare, and Institutional projects is preferred. Must be confident working with estimating teams on projects of varying sizes, and be capable of estimating hard bid, negotiated, and conceptual projects. The ideal candidate will be looking to create strong relationships with subcontractors or expand their already existing network. Individuals must be self-motivated, possess strong communication/interpersonal skills, and be confident in his/her ability to develop and manage their assigned portion of the estimate.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction plans/specifications and break the scope of work into subcontractor trades.
  • Review and understand all bid documents and assess project risks.
  • Have demonstrated leadership abilities to coordinate a team to develop a multidisciplinary estimate.
  • Develop bid strategy with estimating staff and management.
  • Accurately determine labor and equipment costs.
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricing.
  • Subcontractor qualification and solicitation.
  • Effectively communicate estimates and project concerns with estimating staff and management
  • Creative value engineering and cost analysis
  • Understand project logistics and project schedule.
  • Coordinate and assist project management with subcontract scope review and awards.
  • Prepare bid packages.

Qualifications

  • 4-year degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is preferred
  • Minimum 2-5 years of construction industry estimating experience is preferred.
  • Experience estimating projects between $100,000- $15M is preferred.
  • Understanding of estimating software
  • Solid computers skills with MS Office Suite and construction management software
  • Knowledge of construction costs and engineering principles
  • Well organized, flexible, detail-oriented, and can multi-task.
  • Can prioritize workload and consistently meet deadlines while constantly changing tasks and demands.
  • Excellent written and oral communicator.
  • Willing to work collaboratively with the AGAE team.
